If you are going to entrust me to assist you with one of the biggest financial transactions you are ever going to make, then it’s best if you know a little about me. I live in the historic market town of Bishop’s Stortford with my wife Emma, and sons Harvey and Rory. When I’m not talking mortgages, I enjoy travelling and watching/playing as much sport as possible.
I have worked in financial services since 2006, where I have gained a wealth of experience, working across multiple sectors. I started in retail banking, where I worked my way up to managing my own branch before taking advantage of the opportunity to gain my mortgage advice qualifications.
With these qualifications, I moved to a Mortgage Brokerage in the city where I would be able to advise on products from across the market. This also gave me access to brokers with over 40 years’ worth of experience, and help me build up my contact list from a multitude of lenders.
After 3 years with John Charcol where I gained invaluable experience, I was ready to take the next step in my career and go self-employed. Charles Derby Mortgage Bureau, were able to offer me the exciting opportunity of joining their network of highly skilled self-employed Mortgage Brokers, whereby I was given the freedom to work how and where I wanted, but with the benefits of having a large, highly skilled network of advisers behind me aswell.
My next move was to transfer Aston James Bespoke Mortgages to Fort Advice Bureau, who are a Directly Authorised by the FCA, which gives me the platform to really grow Aston James Bespoke Mortgages, which is a trading style of Fort Advice Bureau.
It is since becoming self-employed that I have experienced the pressures of being self-employed, both when applying for a mortgage, and in day to day life. This is what gave me the inspiration to set up Aston James Bespoke Mortgages, a specialist mortgage broker for the self-employed.
I completely understand how life is when you’re self-employed, from cash-flow problems to getting your accountant to evidence your true earnings. It’s this understanding which allows me to present your case to mortgage lenders in the best possible way and make the application process as smooth as possible for my clients.

I’ve just completed on a lovely character terrace property in Falmouth and thank Tony Nash from Charles Derby Mortgage Bureau for helping make this possible. Living overseas and trying to sort out a mortgage was not an easy task but Tony sourced a number of excellent competitive offers. He dealt with all the application paperwork and liaised with the building society on my behalf. In addition, he went out of his way to help facilitate communication between my solicitor and the building society to push the purchase through. Tony worked beyond the 9-5 office hours and was quick to respond to any queries. If you are looking for a mortgage adviser to help with your purchase, I can’t recommend him highly enough!

Think carefully before securing other debts against your home. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
